Mason County Jail

Visitor Policy

Interview with youngster

JM: How often could you receive visitors?
youngster: Once a week, but only 30 minutes total every week. One non-family visitor, and as many family visitors as you could visit in 30 minutes.

JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you?
youngster: No cell phones, no cameras, no wallets.

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
youngster: You get to see you family through an inch thick piece of glass, and get to speak to them over a phone system that sounds like two paper cups with string attached. It's impossible to hear any personality in anyone's voice, or any emotion.

oh, and i went to visit my boyfriend a few times, and the most recent time the person running the visitors center was an absolute jerk. he made us stand out in the cold during the winter for 20 minutes, and didnt let us in until almost ten minutes past the time we could visit. i made sure to say something about it while talking to my boyfriend. hopefully he or his superiors heard. i was pissed.
