Mason County Jail

Good Behavior

Interview with youngster

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
youngster: Yeah. Had alot of close calls though. Tattoos, fights, gambling, wine-making, drugs. Inmates do alot of stuff they don't get caught for. There's also the opportunity to be a trustee, which gets you extra privileges, better living conditions, a dvd player in the tank, and much better food. Mostly the same food that the guards eat for meals.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
youngster: In Mason County, you get 1/3 off if you make it through your whole sentence without getting any write-ups or infractions.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off?
youngster: Anything you have any question would get you in trouble. Mostly contraband. If they can't prove you're making tattoos, they'll toss the place to find the needles and ink.

Can inmates further their education?
